About us
Cardboard Castle productions is an homage to the cardboard castles and pillow forts we built as children. Our first wigs were towels and mop heads and our first costumes were elaborately draped blankets. As adults we use the same magic of dress up to destigmatize drag artistry while elevating and giving back to local nonprofits that support the LGBTQIA community. We do this through family friendly drag brunches, theatrical fundraisers, special event appearances, and drag queen story hours. We understand how important play is at all ages; humans are the only mammals that tell themselves that they must stop playing as adults. So come join us at the Cardboard Castle where play and dress up are the mission and serving our community is the vision.

Founders
David, also known as DeVida, is a licensed therapist and substance abuse specialist as well as a college educator of Psychology and Human Services. They are the Creative Director for Cardboard Castle Productions, LLC and works diligently to bring fun and creative ideas to the stage, table, and libraries we celebrate. David has over 20 years of experience in theater, music, makeup artistry, costuming, and cabaret performance. As DeVida they have won the titles of Miss Gay NC America, Miss Charlotte Pride, and Miss Carolina’s Continental Plus singing live and frequently creating their own wardrobes, make up looks, and performances. When not onstage, in the classroom, or caring for others David enjoys cooking for his family, travelling, and watching cartoons with their son.
Derek is an Accounting Manager and College Instructor of Business and Personal Finance. He is the Business Manager of Cardboard Castle Productions, LLC where he builds and maintains relationships in the community, manages our fiscal and financial responsibilities, as well as emcees our monthly drag brunches. Derek has worked for over twenty years in business. His experience includes retail, banking, public accounting, and project management. He has also frequently been seen on stage either in theater or drag bingo, “they still talk about his Liza.” When not teaching, managing, or performing he enjoys spending time with his family, camping, hiking, and playing video games with his son.
